Now I understand that there was a conflict with Samick. Mike has the Cort made AS120 from a few months later with Super 58's. I'm sorry, I didn't know that the Samick made AS120 had other pickups, it wasn't in the European catalogues. Ibanezfreak1960 gave a price list in some other thread. They're good and the price is reasonable. Your ears are the best judge: replace them by Korean Super 58's. In the European 1995 catalogue is the AS120 VS made by Cort with Super 58's:Īnd in the USA catalogue is the AS120WH made by Samick with Super 50's: I could wax pot the pups to get rid of that.but, if the group's consensus on the Super 50s is blah, it might not be worth the work. These were definitely microphonic when I played out last week.and it's wasn't acoustic controllable feedback - it was microphonic high-pitched feedback. When I play the guitar unplugged I love the sound, but when plugged in it's just sort of "blah". It's not a terrible pickup by any means, but really just mediocre. They are (for me) extremely microphonic, and don't have good detail between strings on more complex chords. I don't like them much at all, and am planning on replacing with a PAF style from SD or Dimarzio (or possibly the p-90 Phat Cats). They are definitely different than the Super 58s. I haven't double checked that model to see if it has Super 50 pickups, but I have a '94 MIK AS-80 with those. What are they? Here are pictures of the pups: The Ibanez site wiring diagram for 1995 lists Super 50s as the pickups on the AS120. Put everything back in and start playing! Did you read my story about the gold plated MAXIMA and OPTIMA strings? Not cheap but no corrosion and great looking on a white semi with gold hardware. Measure the resistance and compare them to Mike's measurments: 7.86 KOhm was what he wrote, I believe. And they sound so good, that you don't even think about replacing them. They look just like normal PAFs but with 50 mm spacing. Nobody would replace them if they weren't broken. Last week we discussed Super 58's and there appeared to be at least 3 or 4 different Super 58's. I did a search and could not find any pictures of the back side of the Super 58s.Īny ideas? I took some pictures if that would be helpful. I took the pickups out and there are no markings that I can see to identify them as Super 58s.
